BRC Tennis Program Class Descriptions

Junior Classes: K through High School

Monday/Wednesday

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

June 4 - July 30

All junior classes will be taught by one of our knowledgeable and experienced pro staff. Juniors will be taught the proper grips, footwork, contact point, and correct stroke pattern for each tennis shot. In 2019 we started using QuickStart Orange and Greendot balls that make it much easier for young children to learn to play. With the QuickStart ball program young children learn to rally, play points and control shots much faster than with standard balls. They rally longer and hit more accurately. You will be amazed at their level of play!

Junior High & High School/ACE Tournament Training Camp:

Mon-Thurs

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

June 4 - July 30

Players will be taught the correct grips, footwork, stroke patterns and shot production by our highly skilled pro staff. Whether their goal is to win match on our junior summer team, make the High School team, or to one day play in a U.S.T.A. Junior Tournament, we will help them reach their goals. Besides learning the correct basics, players will learn winning strategies and how to construct singles and doubles points. Fun individual and team competitions will be organized to help these juniors learn to compete on their own and how to be a part of a team.

In its 12th year, this popular camp has produced hundreds of Naperville area varsity, junior varsity, and many USTA ranked players. The ACE Tennis Camp is originated by Jeff.

Jeff and his teaching staff work daily on improving stroke technique, footwork, shot execution, as well as improving player’s match strategy and mental toughness.  The camp is ideal for high school/junior high aged players that are currently participating on a high school team.  Ace camp is also great for players who want to prepare for their high school team. Players at high school grade who are beginner level will be placed on their own court with a pro who will develop their tennis skills at their pace. Players will be divided on the courts based upon their level. The camp is also geared towards players who would like to improve their USTA district ranking.

The class meets four days per week.

At practices, we go over shot placement, point execution, put away shots, how and when to change strategies in a match, etc. Practices prepare you for the upcoming Friday morning matches against other area clubs. Coach Jeff has worked with many championship traveling teams over the past 25 years.

Have a group of 4 or more and can’t make these times? Contact Chris Frantzen, Tennis Chairperson at tennis@brookdaleracquetclub.com. Chris will try to arrange additional time with the BRC Tennis Pro and coaches.

Pickleball

The BRC is offering pickleball classes for participants age 8 and up through adult.

We are very excited that Tammy Kim will be the pickleball pro. Tammy has been teaching for three years and plays in tournaments. She loves playing and sharing the sport.  It is important to start with the basics and let those flourish as the players gain experience.  Footwork, point of contact, shot selection, serving, speed-up, drop shot are several of the key factors in elevating your Pickleball game.

The number of participants will be limited as indicated on the sign up sheet. If you did not get in the class you will be notified.  Otherwise assume you are in. Participants need to bring their own racquets to class.

Flexibility

Not sure if your child will like tennis but want to try a class? You can pay by the day.  The fee is a little more than paying for the 8 week session. It is a great opportunity if you have a busy summer and want to do lessons part of the time. If you would like to try this option fill out the registration form and give to the pro on the lesson day along with payment made out to BRC. Let Jeff or Chris know ahead of time if possible for planning purposes.

All Adult Classes will use a virtual punch card for classes.  Feel free to mix and match classes at your level. You can pay for the 8 week session to receive the biggest discount, purchase a pack of 5 for a discount, or pay for each class individually.

There is a discount for middle school and high school classes.  Sign up and pay by May 15 to receive a 5% discount!  Classes are first come first served so sign up early to make sure you get a spot. No discount if paying by the day.

Court Availability

The tennis courts are available to BRC members and their guests from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (May 25 – Sept. 2, 2024) whenever lessons, drills or special events are not scheduled. Courts are locked after Labor Day. Contact Chris Frantzen for the lock combination to play earlier than May or through October. Use of the courts is limited to Brookdale Racquet Club, Inc. members and their accompanied guests. Kindly ask unaccompanied, non-members to leave the courts or inform the club management.

All courts are lined for Pickle Ball as well as tennis. Equipment for Pickle Ball (and rules) is available for use at no charge in the BRC office.  Come out on Tuesday evenings for pick-up games!
