The BRC is excited to welcome tennis pro Jeff Behnken back to Brookdale for a third season! Jeff professional enthusiasm and new ideas to our program at all levels! Whether your skill level is never-held-a-racquet to play-for-fun or USTA rated, the BRC has tennis for you!
Jeff Behnken, Tennis Pro:
Jeff has been teaching tennis in the Chicago area for 25 years. He currently teaches full time at the Naperville Tennis Club. Previously, Jeff was the Head Tennis Professional at the Oak Brook Racquet Club in Westmont where he ran Illinois’ second largest men’s professional tournament “Top Gun”, the Men’s travel teams and many other special events.
As a player, Jeff was a highly-ranked Missouri Valley Junior out of St Louis, Missouri. He played in several national Junior Invitational events and competed around the country at the national NCAA D2 level for Southern Illinois University and Southwest Baptist University.
In the past few years, Jeff has developed many of our areas’ top high school players. Several have placed well at the state tournament; some have competed at the college level; and a few have gone on to play professional tennis. He can adapt to his student audience and loves teaching beginner levels as well as ladies travel teams and co-ed drills.
Jeff can be reached on his cell (630-202-4296) or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Feel free to contact him if you have any questions regarding Brookdale’s tennis lesson program. Friend Jeff on Facebook for updates.
Jeff has two assistants this year. Shaan Shukla and Rishi Karamchandani. Shaan has been playing competitive tennis for over ten years. He attended Hinsdale Central High School where he spent three years on the Junior Varsity team and one year on the Varsity team. In 2015, Shaan and Coach Rishi were named JV MVPs while helping their team win conference. The following year, Shaan contributed to an IHSA state title on the Varsity team. Currently, he is playing club tennis and studying Biology at the University of Miami.
Rishi started playing tennis when he was 7 years old and continued all through high school. He played on the high school team 4 years, which won state titles three of those years. He is currently a business student at the University of Illinois and continues to participate in club tennis whenever he can.
The tennis courts are available to BRC members and their guests from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (May 27 – Sept. 4, 2017) whenever lessons, drills or special events are not scheduled. Courts are locked after Labor Day. Contact Chris Frantzen for the lock combination to play earlier than May or through October.
Private lessons are available and can only be provided by BRC employees and BRC pros. Schedule all private lessons directly with Jeff.
Tennis Class Descriptions
Junior Classes: K through 5th Grade
All junior classes will be taught by one of our knowledgeable and experienced pro staff. Juniors will be taught the proper grips, footwork, contact point, and correct stroke pattern for each tennis shot. The pros will create a fun and exciting learning experience to encourage participants to embrace tennis as a lifetime sport! Fun drills, point play, and no pressure team competitions will be used to give the kids a great summer tennis experience!
Junior High & High School
Players will be taught the correct grips, footwork, stroke patterns and shot production by our highly skilled pro staff. Whether their goal is to win match on our junior summer team, make the High School team, or to one day play in a U.S.T.A. Junior Tournament, we will help them reach their goals. Besides learning the correct basics, players will learn winning strategies and how to construct singles and doubles points. Fun individual and team competitions will be organized to help these juniors learn to compete on their own and how to be a part of a team.
Adult Class: Beginner, Adv. Beginner, & Intermediate
Whether you are picking up a racquet for the very first time or returning to the game from a break you will love our adult tennis classes! All classes are coed. Sign up individually, with your spouse, or with a friend. You’ll also meet new friends! Class sessions will review grips, stroke technique, and pump up your heart rate with drills that will get you moving!
Men’s and Women’s Coed Drills
Players signing up for these drills should be above the Intermediate Level (3.0 or higher). Drills involve mostly a doubles focus; however, singles drills may sometimes be run. Drills are normally fast paced and challenging. Insightful instructional tips are provided to players before and during point play.
Ladies Team Practices
All women competing on Brookdale’s Travel Teams are encouraged to participate in our weekly Team Practice. The best way to learn winning doubles strategies for match play is with a doubles partner. At practices, we go over shot placement, point execution, put away shots, how and when to change strategies in a match, etc. Practices prepare you for the upcoming Friday morning matches against other area clubs. Coach Jeff has worked with many championship traveling teams over the past 25 years.
Have a group of 4 or more and can’t make these times? Contact Chris Frantzen, Tennis Chairperson at email@example.com. Chris will try to arrange additional time with the BRC Tennis Pro and coaches.
Everyone is encouraged to come join the fun! We have many activities for all skill levels. Adult programs are open to adults 18 and over. The drills are a lot of fun! Please feel free to contact Jeff Behnken, BRC Tennis Pro, or Chris Frantzen, Tennis Program Chairperson, with your tennis questions or comments.
If any Junior or adult student is unsure of their skill level, a short evaluation can be scheduled with Jeff before the class start date.
